The Moerdeng way

A jacket is chosen by weather, then by weight

Moerdeng started in 2018 with one ski jacket: fleece inside, a hood that unzipped, cuffs that closed over a glove. We drew it around a specific kind of day rather than around a catalogue photograph, and the Moerdeng studio still works in that order.

We wear every new piece for a season before approving it. The people behind Moerdeng argue about hoods more than about colours, because a hood decides whether a jacket is worn on the worst day of the year or left on a hook.

What a page here tells you

The weight of that exact size in pounds, taken from the maker's data. The cut, hip length or long. What the lining is. Whether the hood comes off and whether the trim does. What the shell is made of where the maker says so. The size you are looking at, and every other size in that colour with its own price.

What we leave alone

Numbers the maker does not publish. There is no water column figure on this site, no gram weight of fill and no temperature rating, because Moerdeng does not state them and we will not invent them. Words like waterproof and windproof appear as the maker's words, under that label.
